From the factory the Ford 8.8 has a lip on the bottom of the axle.  This lip likes to hang up on obstacles and limit progress. These plates get stacked and welded onto the bottom of the housing to create more of a ramp on the bottom of the housing.  The kit comes in pieces and requires welding.
